Located in the historic heart of Cuernavaca, Mexico, the project reimagines the area surrounding the Adolfo López Mateos Market, transforming an isolated superblock into a connected, walkable, mixed-use district. Drawing inspiration from the city's historical urban fabric, the proposal restores the continuity of streets, public squares, and civic spaces while integrating ecological restoration, housing, commerce, and cultural life.
Vignettes
The master plan reconnects neighborhoods divided by large-scale infrastructure, revives the Amanalco ravine as a green public corridor, and creates a network of human-scaled streets and plazas that encourage daily social interaction and economic vitality.
Market Plan
More than a redevelopment proposal, Cuauhnahuac serves as a replicable model for Latin American cities facing similar challenges of fragmentation, sprawl, and loss of identity. It demonstrates how traditional urbanism can address contemporary issues through timeless principles of connectivity, mixed use, environmental stewardship, and placemaking.
